Peaceful Solution?

Recently the national government and the MoroIslamicLiberationFront, somehow agreed to work on, towards a peaceful Mindanao. And one contentious aspect of that agreement is the inclusion of North Cotabato in the Moro Juridical Entity. Who decided so? The government negotiators (who hails from where? and do they share the same sentiments with mindanaoan?)…..with the lame excuse that it will be subjected to a plebiscite.

This is the kind of action that is endemic to a Manila centric government. It is only them who knows what is best for our country. Have they consulted the people of North Cotabato about this thing? Apparently, they assumed that they know what is best for Cotabato people.

For my part as a Cotabateño, I vehemently object to the inclusion of Cotabato in the proposed Moro Juridical entity. I do not relish the thought of being under the stewardship of somebody who where just there because of religious affiliation, or because of political haggling. I know there are Moro people who are well educated to handle the mantle of leadership, but that should not be the reason why the non-moros should not be given the same opportunity. We have suffered so much already, not only from the neglect of our sentiments, and the disregard of our right for self determination; we have equally suffered so much from the terroristic activities of some rebel groups, and for Manila people to think that because they have assuaged the sentiments of the separitist group would mean peace for Mindanao is a great mistake.

We the ordinary people of North Cotabato will not raise a howl if this is good news. We will fight for our rights as we have fought before. If they are given their chosen land, then we also demand our land, for us to govern, for our leaders to lead. We want our lands to till, and our area to developed.
